What is it?
LIA Malaysia 2018 is an intensive 16-week programme of practical skills and expert mentoring aimed at empowering individuals and teams from early-stage innovation projects or businesses to develop their commercial models, validate their target markets, raise investment and enter and expand their product reach in the global market place.
Join us in Kuala Lumpur this summer where the LIA Malaysian community will be forged, bringing together the best and brightest Malaysian entrepreneurs in one place, to build, explore, learn and collaborate - supported by expert international mentors and innovative workshop events designed to accelerate your project or business and achieve your goals.

Who should apply?
The accelerator programme is aimed at Malaysian innovators and technology entrepreneurs with early-stage innovations or newly-formed technology-based businesses that have high-growth global-market potential.
Participants should be based in Malaysia, and applications are open to researchers, academics, independent technology entrepreneurs and early-stage technology start-ups and spin-outs. Applicants should be passionate about transforming their idea into an investment ready opportunity, and be willing and able to commit half a day per week for 16 weeks to the programme. Mentors will be working with you remotely from the UK.

How do i apply?
To apply for the programme (as a team or an individual) simply click on the application form link below (Google form) complete the form and submit it before the closing date, the 5th of August 2018 at 23:59 MYT.
If you are working for a university or research institute you will need permission from your line manager to participate; simply download the "Line Manager Approval Form" (pdf) below and ask your manager to read and sign it, it can then be attached to the application form before submitting (or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org)

What is the selection criteria?
We are looking for the following...
Projects that are technology based (tangible engineering innovation or scientific advances and discoveries) from Life Sciences, Software Engineering, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Digital, Agritech, Cleantech or Food Sciences sectors.
Innovations which have existing intellectual property or have the potential to become protectable.
Innovations with strong international market potential (end users, licensees, commercial partners etc) outside of Malaysia.
Innovations with data to support the underlying technical concept. Applicants submitting evidence of research and/or lab testing will be prioritised.
We particularly welcome applications for innovations developed out of the publicly funded research sector (LIF fellows, other Newton Fund grant receivers, and GCIP alumni)
We are looking for applicants with a passion and interest in seeing their innovation developed and launched in the international market and who are able to commit an average of 1/2 a day a week of their time, for 16 weeks during the acceleration phase of the programme.
What Happens Next?

On the 6th of August we'll let you know if your team has been one of the luckly 30 projects invited to take part in an exciting 3 day Bootcamp in Kuala Lumpur (14th-16th August)
From the Bootcamp stage just 15 teams will then be shortlisted and invited to join the 4 month accelerator, with a final pitching day scheduled for early January 2019.
